CMS@The Summit

Hi Folks,

The dates for next year's Christian Music Summit are May 4 & 5.  So far, it looks like the headliners are Brenton Brown, Paul Baloche.  Christie and Nathan Nockels will also be there.  A full list of artists and clinicians can be found on the CMS site.  This lineup is sure to expand a little before the conference.

The prices have gone up a little this year.  The Super Early Bird price is $119, good until 1.31.12.  This year, our personal contribution will be $30, the church will pay the rest.  If you would like to go, please let me know by Januray 22.  I will collect the money then as well.

Here's the site: http://www.christianmusiciansummit.com/conferences/chapel/index.php

Songs for Practice

Hi everyone,

This Thursday, I'd like to look at Joyful/Brenton Brown, and also look at some Christmas songs.  Here are some that we have done in the past.  I thought we could see how many of these we get to.

Go Tell it on the Mountain
Mary Did You Know
Away in the Manger
What Child is This
O Come O Come Emmanual

Please email or text me with other favorites you think we could try.  The challange is making them "playable" as most caroles are riddled with chords!

Thanks!

Hi guys,
Hope you are all well.  This week is our first Thursday practice.  Please be there at 5:15, 5:20 at the latest.  I'd like to start asap since we have a "hard stop" (I love saying that - ha!) at 6:45.

We will be working on:
The Great I Am/Anderson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGv5d8EE34k
Joyful/Brown  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfJWaQJDi7k  I'd like to make the chorus as intense and "full of sound" as possible.  I also like the power chord he throws in after the verses.

That's all for now.  I might add one more to the bunch tomorrow.

Many of you may already have seen my email, but if you haven't, Thursday practices are a go!  I'm excited because it will enable more band members to attend practice.  Practices will begin at 5:15 and run until 6:45.  We will have a "hard stop" because of the Bible Study and Youth/Btween happening that night at 7.  With that in mind, if you need to set up and can come a couple minutes earlier, that would be a good thing!  I will be rolling right in from work at 5:15 :)

We will continue to use this time to work on new stuff - here's whats in the hopper:

New Songs for Practice on 5-25

So, as we discussed at the team meeting, we will be using our practices more for new song development vs. Sunday set work.  I will post the songs with audio if available about a week or so in advance.  That will give us time to work on certain tags, riffs, harmonies, etc before we come to practice.

Lay My Burden Down
I had so much fun listening to the Blue Counsel do this at CMS.  I think it will be a great addition to our repertoire, and that the congregation will have fun with it too!  I don't have an audio link for you, but it is available on iTunes if you want to check it out.  I can also copy to a cd for you.  Just let me know.

You Won't Relent/Misty Edwards
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3spvQYlB-I
Mitch, I'd like to do the hook/rif like in the recording....we can talk about whether it should be guitar or keys.

I will email chord charts shortly!  Jen

Notes from 4.27 meeting

We had a nice meeting yesterday and a some new ideas were shared - thanks everyone!  Here's the recap:
  • We will continue to allow times for the "New Song" during our sets
  • We are going to discontinue using the instramentalists' schedule.  If you need a day off, please let me know 2 weeks in advance when ever possible.
  • We will continue using the schedule for vocalists.
  • I introduced our team blog!  Check out here for set lists, team updates, links to songs, relavant articles, news on new music in the Worship scene around the world.
  • We will start using our Wednesday practices more strategically.  Instead of running through the Sunday set list in it's entirety, we will use that time for new song development.  The songs (and audio/video links) will be posted here in at least a week in advance so we can hit the ground running at practice.
As always, please let me know if you have any feeback or questions.  Also, please feel free to post comments here!
